Fine line styles, one by one

Fine line

A tattoo style built on very thin, precise strokes made with low-count needles. It prioritises delicacy, minimalism and clean linework over fill or colour.

Single needle

The finest variant of fine line: tattooed with a single needle for maximum detail and the most delicate strokes possible. Common in microrealism and tiny designs.

Microrealism

Realism at a very small scale. It brings portraits, objects or scenes to just a few centimetres with realistic detail, usually using fine linework and soft gradients.

Geometric microrealism

Microrealism combined with geometric composition: clean shapes, frames or line patterns that frame or structure the realistic subject.

Minimalist tattoo

A design reduced to the essentials: few lines, plenty of negative space and simple shapes. Usually done in fine line for discretion and elegance.

Geometric tattoo

Compositions based on shapes, symmetry and geometric patterns (lines, circles, polygons). In fine line this means clean, precise strokes without heavy fill.

Lettering

In other words: all single needle is fine line, but not all fine line is done with a single needle. For tiny designs or micro portraits, single needle gives the highest possible resolution.
