When realism meets geometry · a contemporary visual language

Geometric microrealism is one of the most refined compositions in modern fine line. It combines the photographic detail of microrealism with delicate geometric elements — triangles, concentric circles, lunar phases, orbits, sacred geometry — that frame, cross or complete the realistic piece. The shading brings presence; the geometry brings structure. Together they let a contained piece carry visual weight without needing scale.

It's the format where our two specialties cross most cleanly — microrealism and fine line. The precision of fine line turns geometry into architecture for the realism, not into secondary ornament.

Repertoire · what can be composed

The gallery reflects the visual languages that cross most often in this register:

  • Pet portraits with geometric frame — triangle, circle, hexagon. The piece reads like a miniature altarpiece.
  • Fauna with narrative — horse with Hokusai wave, whale with arrows, giraffe with flowers. The realistic animal is paired with elements that tell a story.
  • Classical sculpture — Canova's Psyche kiss, Lady Justice with scales, Atlas holding the globe, Venus with botanical branch, Greek busts, Hellenistic figures, all with sacred geometry or refined typography.
  • Travel narrative compositions — Eiffel Tower with Essonne coordinates, Salmantica + East End with compass, personal maps with meaningful elements.
  • Visual manifestos — realistic animals (lion, wolf) with meaningful typography (FAITH · GRATITUDE · VENI VIDI VICI · DISCIPLINE) and Fibonacci spiral.
  • Astronomical symbolism — real constellations, lunar phases, orbits, compasses. Customisable with your date, your zodiac, your coordinates.
  • Classical iconography — Roman scale, Greek columns, zodiac signs, dodecahedrons, sacred geometry (flower of life, seed of life).
  • Long vertical narrative compositions — designed to extend along the forearm or calf, with several elements in dialogue.

Why geometric microrealism works

  • Visual structure. The geometric frame contains the realism and gives it architecture. The piece doesn't blend with the skin, it's framed as a composition.
  • Ages well. Well-done fine line geometric lines stay sharp for years, helping the piece remain readable even as realistic shading softens with time.
  • Contained size, high visual weight. Lets you have a narrative composition in 8–14 cm without needing a full sleeve.
  • Aesthetic versatility. Fits in minimalist looks (single visible piece) or denser compositions (part of a worked arm).

How the process works

  1. 01
Send reference photo + composition idea.

Instagram DM @sinkply or book a slot directly on Booksy. If you don't have a clear geometric frame in mind, we suggest options based on your realistic element.

  2. 02
    Preliminary design.

We show sketch before the session. Here we adjust: type of geometry, scale of the realism, distribution of elements on the body.

  3. 03
    Session.

We start with geometric lines (precise, thin), then realistic shading. 3–5 hours depending on complexity.

  4. 04
    Aftercare with second-skin patch.

Patch for the first week and aftercare instructions. Free touch-up during the first year if a line didn't fully settle.

Frequently asked questions

Can it be done in colour?
Yes, but most are done in black and grey. Colour works on eyes (blue, green) and flowers (soft watercolour). Geometry always in fine black.
How long does the session last?
3–5 hours for a typical multi-element piece. The geometric portion is usually 45 min – 1 h, the rest realistic shading.
What if the geometry doesn't settle well after healing?
Free touch-up during the first year. Geometric lines are the most visible part if uneven, so we prioritise them with extra care.
Can I combine personal elements (my pet + my constellation + my number)?
Yes — one of the most beautiful uses of this register. We help you build a composition that brings 2–4 personal elements together without saturating the piece.
